Both shows were in Indianapolis, Indiana and both shows we're very quiet for the most part. The crowd was into almost half of what was going on, while I was into maybe a third. I watched 205 live and was't impressed by the matches or the commentary team. I'll start there because honestly the show wasn't great.
The Brian Kendrick beat Gentleman Jack Gallagher with a Slice Bread #2. It was an okay finish, Kendrick is a stud and a great heel. He should have been moved to Raw in my opinion. The Singh Brothers had a squash match that was okay. We were told that the Singh Brothers were drafted #1 in the Bollywood draft which made them the top tag team on 205 live. The brand doesn't have a tag division or even a belt other than the Cruiserweight championship. This information was useless and I hope they forget this next week. Between matches we saw Lio Rush and we're told he will be coming back to 205 to defend the Cruiserweight title against the winner of the main event match that is a triple threat.
Tony Nese Defeats Oney Lorcan and Ariya Daivari. The match was the best only because Oney Lorcan can drag that type of match out of people. Honestly can't remember the finish though, their were a lot of false starts and in the end Tony Nese won. I predict Tony Nese will lose to Lio Rush simply cause of timing and because Lio is the better talent.
Overall, not the best or worst show. It would be a better show if they moved passed the 205 weight gimmick and tried something now. The show isn't watched by anyone and its a shame because the guys are trying.
Now Friday Night SmackDown was longer and more happened on it so this part will be longer and have more moving parts. The commentary as I mentioned before is just bad. It only gets worst when you add a third guy. Sami Zyan isn't a great heel and that is putting it lightly. Having him be the mouthpiece for Shinsuke Nakamura isn't going to change his character's drawing power. Sami and Nakamura come down the ring for an Intercontinintal Championship match that I knew was going to end with a DQ because of Roman Reigns.
The booking here is bad. If you look at this match and you have been watching wrestling for more than five years you know we're not getting a finish. The idea of having this open the show bad. You start the show with a DQ which messes up the pace of the rest of the night. The match wasn't great, it was slow for most of the time. Sami interfered in it even though he was suppose to be on commentary. It was a hot mess that ended in King Corbin coming to the ring and hitting Roman in the back. This caused Danial Bryan to come out and save Roman which then lead into a ring clearing. Not a great start to a two hour show.
Shorty Gable has a match with Curtis Axle, it was basically a message to tell kid to ignore bullies and to be who you are meant to be. Great message lousy match, Shorty Gable changes his name to Shorty G. Next segment is Hulk Hogan responding to Rick Flair's twitter account, it was lousy and stupid and it ends with his Skype call cutting out cause even the internet is tired of him being on TV.
After that, we cut to the New Day singing when Tucker comes in and talks about the Crown Jewels best tag team in the world match. He says he wants to help Koffi move past his title loss and has a great idea for it. In comes Otis with a huge bowl of pancake batter and him and tucker start to add protein powder to it and then eat it raw. The five of them then start to sing New Day Rocks and it cuts to a commercial. I really hated this whole segment, and this leads into our first tag match of the night.
New Day and Heavy Machinery vs The Revival, Bobby Roode, and Dolph Ziggler. Very a typical match, not a lot happens honestly. The commentators just talk about the chaos in the ring and comment that its a lot for one ref to manage. Heavy Machinery get the pin, it was an okay match. During their victory lap, its announced that the main event will be Roman Reigns and Danial Bryan vs King Corbin and Shinskue Nakamura. This was not a shock to me as I called it at the beginning of the show, it was obvious.
Bayley comes out and officially turns heel on Miz TV. The segment is way to long, the only thing that really matters here is that she comes out with Sasha Banks. Banks then says that Bayley is the first ever grand slam woman's champion in WWE history. I like this, its a building block into their eventual match. Nikki Cross comes out and calls out Bayley which leads into a six pack women's championship match. The winner is given an #1 contender spot to face Bayley.
Carmella v Nikki Cross v Dana Brook v Lacey Evans v Mandy Rose v Sonya Deville. The match wasn't bad, I liked the talent that was involved. Most of those women don't get shots at titles very often and over very entertaining. Nikki Cross would get the win and move into the #1 contender spot.
Brawn comes out and wrestles the former Cruiserweight champ Drew Gulak. Very quick match, Brawn gets a big pop and murders Drew. This was all to build hype over Brawn and Fury facing off at Crown Jewels. Not a great PPV match but who knows it could be fun.
Now the main event begins. Danial Bryan and Roman vs King Corbi and Shinskue Nakamura. This was a very fast match. They must have over stayed their welcome or maybe the show was running long but it was a quick ten minutes. The match was a repeat of the first match of the show but with a finish. Roman and Bryan win and its hinted at that they make a great team. This is said after its announced that Roman is the captain of Hulk Hogans team at Crown Jewels.
Overall thoughts of the show. It had moments of "entertainment", but for the most part I feel the show is over produced. The ideas that are presented are all half backed and lame. Most of the talent does't want or doesn't feet the role that Vince want them to play. It just isn't a great product. However, Bayley had a great segment, Brawn was shown off and looks like a monster. New Day still look like great, babyface Danial Bryan is a treat, and King Corbin is still getting massive heat and looking great. The show was a mess yes, but they still have some talent that can change how the show moves going forward. Here's hoping they figure out how to make a more solid show before AEW gets wise and moves to Friday nights.
